Job summary

Sharp HealthCare is seeking a Sterile Processing Department Technician to handle the processing and distribution of instruments and medical equipment used in inpatient care areas. The role includes inputting patient charges and maintaining strict safety and hygiene standards.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and enrollment in a Sterile Processing certification program, with certification obtained within eight months of hire.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• Enrollment in a Sterile Processing certification program is required.
• Certification must be obtained within 8 months of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe, clean working environment including unit-based safety and infection control requirements.
• Documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological tests to determine efficacy of the sterilization process.
• Documents and verifies washer check tests to determine efficacy of the washer/disinfectors.
• Documents and verifies ultrasonic check tests to determine efficacy of the ultrasonic cleaner.
• Delivers Patient Care Equipment to customers in a timely, quality manner.
• Performs SPD functions including decontamination, instrument preparation, sterilization, high level disinfection, storage and distribution.
• Operates SPD equipment (steam, gas plasma, washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, heat sealers).
• Manages inventory and communicates supply issues promptly.
• Serves as a resource to customers on all SPD functions and trains new employees.
