Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada, Inc. in Reno, NV is hiring for full-time Support Staff on the Nevada Cares Campus, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. You will ensure quality service, support residents, and help with daily program operations in a compassionate, professional manner.

The role emphasizes safety, de-escalation, and teamwork, with duties ranging from meal coordination and security to documentation and inter staff communications.

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
• General knowledge of homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, minorities and persons with disabilities.
• Flexible to irregular hours and able to function as a team member.
• Requires CPR and First Aid training within ninety days, re-certification as necessary.
• TB testing annually; Nevada driver’s license preferred; background check required.

Responsibilities

• Explain program rules and facilitate participant observance of rules.
• Coordinate meal preparation/service, bed assignments, showers, and daily routines.
• Provide awake shift coverage and conduct hourly safety checks.
• De-escalate crises and provide emergency assistance when needed.
• Maintain daily reports and program logs; answer questions from participants.
• Perform clerical duties such as answering phones and filing.
• Communicate clearly with participants, Shelter Supervisor, and external agencies.
• Assist with property management and inventory of participant belongings.
