Job summary

The Gathering Inn in Sacramento is seeking a dedicated Specialist to welcome and support guests, manage overnight operations, and respond to crises with care. You will help maintain a safe, trauma-informed environment while handling intakes, bed assignments, and documentation.

Required is a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, and availability for evenings and weekends. Experience working with homelessness, mental health, or substance use challenges is valued, with basic computer

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Familiarity with homelessness, mental health, or substance use issues preferred.
• Experience in healthcare or human services is a plus.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and record keeping.
• Ability to pass a Live Scan background check.
• Availability for weekends, evenings, and overnight shifts.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and intake guests with empathy and respect, trauma-informed approach.
• Oversee bed assignments, check-ins, and transitions during nightly operations.
• Respond to crises with compassion and de-escalation; coordinate with emergency services when needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment reflecting dignity and respect.
• Document guest interactions and facility needs clearly for the team.
• Collaborate with colleagues, volunteers, and partners to meet guest needs.
• Assist with guest transportation using passenger vans when needed.
• Adapt to indoor and outdoor environments and various weather conditions.
