Job summary

Westhab Inc. is seeking a Safety Security Officer for the evening shift in the Bronx. The role monitors safety and security for clients, staff, and the shelter, with 24-hour operations and mandated overtime. Reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager.

Responsibilities include conducting room inspections, controlling access at the main entrance, responding to incidents, and facilitating client intakes, while maintaining strong customer service and communication with clients and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and prior security experience required.
• Must have NYS Security Guard License and current 8-Hour Annual Certificate.
• Fire Guard License for Shelters preferred (F02).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
• Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred.
• Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime if necessary.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections of clients' rooms.
• Escort clients to appointments as needed.
• Interact with and monitor clients' behavior, maintaining rapport with excellent customer service.
• Control access at the main entrance by screening clients and visitors with magnetometer/x-ray.
• Perform Crisis Intervention to de-escalate crises and document interventions.
• Make hourly rounds throughout the facility.
• Respond to incidents and assist with client intakes.
• Perform daily packing and logging of client property for AWOL clients.
• Store and remove client property after mandated storage time.
• Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
• Complete logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
• Make calls to police, fire department, and other first responders as directed.
• Perform administrative duties at the operations desk; monitor CCTV and alarms.

Education

High school diploma or GED
