Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Lab Support Tech I to greet patients, perform phlebotomy and related procedures, and support specimen registration and test ordering. The role involves extensive computer system use and collaboration with nursing and lab staff.

Responsibilities include specimen collection across age groups, proper labeling, and maintaining stock and PPE. Evening shifts and weekend rotation are part of the schedule, with 24 hours per week.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Phlebotomy training (preferred).
• ASCP certification or eligibility (preferred).
• Phlebotomy experience (preferred).
• Computer and keyboard proficiency (preferred).
• Fluent English communication skills (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Greet and receive patients and determine their needs.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures including blood cultures, EKGs, and swabs.
• Communicate and direct patients as needed to the appropriate department.
• Register specimens accurately and manage labeling.
• Order tests accurately within hospital information systems.
• Answer and transfer calls courteously and ensure coverage at all times.
