Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Transporter to move patients throughout the hospital, assist nursing staff, and handle transport equipment. The role requires a high school diploma and BLS within 6 months, with strong English communication and customer service skills.

Baseline duties include transporting patients by wheelchair or bed, coordinating with labs, pharmacy, and radiology, and maintaining transport logs.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Good inter-personal skills and a customer service orientation to maintain a collaborative, patient focused effort between Patient Transportation and other hospital departments.
• Six months' experience in a hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Escort ambulatory patients and transport by wheelchair, stretcher or bed.
• Assist nursing staff with patient transfers and use lift devices.
• Deliver stretchers, beds, cribs and wheelchairs; clean and sanitize transport equipment.
• Transport patient specimens and materials between labs, pharmacy, radiology and blood bank.
• Provide handoff communications to receiving units.
• Maintain patient transport activity logs.
