Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Patient Transporter to support nursing staff by moving patients, delivering supplies, and ensuring safe transport within hospital units. The role requires reading and speaking English, strong interpersonal skills and a customer-service mindset.

High school diploma or equivalent is required; BLS is preferred with 6 months hospital experience. Schedule varies with on-call and evening shifts; a signing bonus may be available based on interview

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Good inter-personal skills and a customer service orientation to maintain a collaborative, patient focused effort between Patient Transportation and other hospital departments.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Six months’ experience in a hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Escorts ambulatory patients. Transports patient by wheelchair, stretcher or bed. Verifies patient identification and provides handoff communication.
• Assists nursing staff and/or lift tech in moving and positioning of patients using lift devices.
• Delivers stretchers, beds, cribs and wheelchairs; assists in deep-cleaning transport equipment and sanitizes vehicles.
• Transports patient specimens and other materials following infection control guidelines.
• Delivers medical records, pharmaceuticals, X-ray films, sterile items, and other items as required.
• Interacts with a web-based dispatch system and maintains transport logs; may act as dispatcher when trained.
