Job summary

Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, MD is seeking a Patient Access Representative I to manage scheduling, registration, and pre-admission tasks in a patient-focused environment.

The role supports care teams and revenue cycle by verifying demographics, insurance coverage, and arranging pre-certifications, while guiding patients through cost estimates and financial assistance options. You will maintain registration knowledge for accurate reporting and assist with ADT functions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• AAHAM/NAHAM certification preferred.
• 1 year of clerical or customer service experience required; 2 years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring quality customer service.
• Provide customer service across Patient Access/Administrative Services with a patient-centered approach.
• Verify demographics and insurance benefits; obtain pre-certifications and/or pre-notifications.
• Provide cost estimates and inform patients about financial assistance options.
• Offer wayfinding to clinics and navigate patients to appointments.
• Maintain knowledge of registration information for timely reporting and billing; obtain necessary signatures.
• Educate patients on insurance coverage and billing requirements; communicate procedures.
• Collaborate with Care Management to ensure reimbursement and pre-certification requirements are met.
• Assist supervisor with training new Admitting staff.
