RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Patient Access Representative for the RWJ Rahway facility. The role involves registering and obtaining demographic and insurance details to financially clear outpatient accounts, with a focus on accuracy and patient satisfaction.

This hourly, day-shift position offers per diem hours in a busy emergency access service environment. Preferred qualifications include prior patient access experience, insurance verification, and familiarity with registration and billing

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical insurance verification and authorization experience preferred.
• Patient Access experience preferred.
• Knowledge of registration, billing regulations, and state programs such as Charity Care preferred.
• Medical terminology and computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and facilitate registration and admissions by obtaining demographic and insurance information and authorizations to financially clear outpatient hospital accounts.
• Promote patient satisfaction through detail-oriented service and accurate information handling.
• Demonstrate initiative and communication skills; escalate issues to leadership when needed.
• Collaborate with nursing and ancillary departments to maintain a team environment.
• Assist in training staff through development of materials and in-services.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

As a Patient Access Representative, a typical day might include:

• Responsible for coordinating and facilitating registration and admissions by obtaining pertinent demographic information, collecting accurate insurance information authorizations to financially clear outpatient hospital accounts
• The ideal candidate must be detail oriented and promote patient satisfaction
• Service orientated background, good written and verbal communication skills and accurate typing ability
• Demonstrates initiative and motivation in role; proactively identifies and resolves problems in an appropriate manner and escalates issues to leadership when necessary
• Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude
• Works closely and professionally with nursing and ancillary departments to foster a team environment
• Participate in training through the development of training tools, presentations at department in-services or staff meetings, or through the training of registration staff outside the patient access department

• Medical terminology and computer skills
