Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Massachusetts is seeking a Registration Specialist to schedule lab, radiology and ancillary services across multiple campuses. The role requires processing insurance, pre-authorizations and patient billing, while delivering compassionate patient access.

The position offers an evening shift with 16 hours per shift on a rotating schedule including weekends and holidays. Required is a high school diploma, with preferred associate/bachelor degree in business or healthcare.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Business or Healthcare related field preferred.
• Must be available to work evenings and weekends on a rotating schedule.

Responsibilities

• Enter Lab, Radiology and basic ancillary service appointments to schedules.
• Schedule patients for treatment and services for multiple providers at multiple campuses.
• Coordinate the provision of multiple services to patients.
• Process updates and corrections to patient insurance and demographic information, including referrals and authorizations.
• Collect patient liabilities prior to or on the date of service as appropriate.
• Arrange associated tests and services according to guidelines.
• Prioritize visits to optimize physician time and patient flow.
• Enter demographic, insurance and other patient information into scheduling systems.
• Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations when required.
• Notify patients of appointment times and follow up on discrepancies.
• Provide patients with information about their preparation for procedures.
• Transcribe orders when applicable.
• Assess patients' financial needs and direct to counseling as needed.
• Perform related clerical duties and maintain accurate records.

Education
