Job summary

Phoenix Children's Hospital, Inc. in Avondale is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist II to join the laboratory team as a generalist. This 0.9 FTE evening/overnight role includes rotating weekends, with hours from 5pm to 5:30am.

The MLS II performs standard, complex and specialized tests, ensures quality, troubleshoots issues, and participates in new procedures. The position reports to the supervisor and supports patient care through accurate results.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Clinical Laboratory Science program from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and work experience (as specified in the CLIA regulations for high complexity testing personnel).
• Clinical laboratory experience.
• Current nationally recognized certification (ASCP or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Prepares reports of test results and examinations for patient treatment decisions.
• Performs full range of chemical, microbiologic, hematologic, and immunohematologic laboratory procedures.
• Participates in development and evaluation of new procedures and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintains competency through continued education and literature review.
• Performs standard and specialized patient testing and quality control testing.
• Diagnoses causes of technical or instrument problems and resolves them.
• Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure proper operation.
• Assists peers with work assignments and performs related duties.
