Job summary

Chapman University is seeking a Circulation Assistant (Half-Time) to support the Law Library and University library operations. The role focuses on patron services, ILL, reserves, and stacks maintenance, with emphasis on evenings and weekends.

The ideal candidate will have a strong service mindset, supervisory experience, and the ability to manage Circulation tasks, policies, and safety procedures while collaborating across departments on campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required.
• Strong service orientation and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated supervisory and management experience and skills.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment to conceptualize, communicate, and coordinate complex activities and projects.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse groups at all organizational levels.
• Commitment to expanding, improving, and promoting library services.
• Demonstrated writing skills to produce clear, concise, accurate documentation.
• Ability to independently prioritize tasks when faced with interruptions and fluctuating workload.
• Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Open or close the library; assist library users at the Circulation Desk.
• Supervise student employees; assist with training, scheduling, and evaluating student employees.
• Assist in developing and enforcing Circulation policies and procedures.
• Understand and enforce safety protocols in accordance with established University and library procedures.
• Use and assist in the administration of the circulation module of the ILS.
• Assist patrons with creating study room reservations and research appointments.
• Communicate with Law Library, School of Law, and University departments regarding library access, security, facilities, and student employment.
• Assist in maintaining the collection.
• Assist with filing loose-leaf updates.
• Clean and disinfect high-touch areas.
