Job summary

Qualifications

• High School graduate with familiarity in data entry and medical terminology.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
• No specialized certification required if responsibilities are met.

Responsibilities

• Receives specimens and checks manifests to verify counts.
• Logs and assigns accession numbers to specimens and requisitions.
• Sorts and triages to the correct workstation; files manifests.
• Answers telephones and communicates pertinent information.
• Sends specimens via pneumatic tube or dumbwaiter.
• Performs basic pneumatic tube troubleshooting via computer.
• Processes specimens including centrifugation, pour-off and labeling.
• Registers short form outreach specimens from clients.
• Supports inventory and ensures adequate supplies.
• Maintains accurate process records in manual and computer systems.
• Logs errors for specimens received without proper tubes/requisitions.
• Complies with laboratory quality, health and safety policies.
