Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA, is seeking a laboratory support technician to help with specimen collection and processing, accessioning, triage of requisitions, and routine lab duties across flex shifts.

Responsibilities include receiving specimens, logging accession numbers, assisting with reagents and slides, drawing blood, sterilizing glassware, and maintaining inventory. High school diploma and data entry familiarity required; prior lab experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School graduate; familiarity with data entry and/or word processor and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Receives specimens from couriers and checks manifests to verify appropriate count.
• Logs and assigns accession numbers to specimens and requisitions received.
• Sorts and triages requisitions and specimens to appropriate workstation; completes and files manifests.
• Answers telephones and communicates pertinent information.
• Performs a variety of routine duties to assist in laboratory processes, such as preparing reagents and stains, preparing slides and specimens, drawing blood, autoclaving and washing of glass wear, disposal of biohazardous waste.
• Maintains accurate records of processes performed using manual and computer-based systems.
