Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA is seeking a laboratory support professional to perform routine specimen processing, accessioning, triage and data entry duties. You will receive specimens from couriers, assign accession numbers, log manifests, handle pneumatic tube deliveries, prepare reagents and slides, and help maintain inventory and accurate records.

The position is non-exempt with a flexible schedule and potential signing bonus; a high school diploma and familiarity with data entry

Qualifications

• High School graduate with familiarity with data entry and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Receives specimens from couriers and checks manifests to verify count.
• Logs and assigns accession numbers to specimens and requisitions.
• Sorts and triages requisitions and specimens to appropriate workstation; completes and files manifests.
• Answers phones and communicates pertinent information; sends specimens via pneumatic tube or dumbwaiter.
• Performs minor troubleshooting of pneumatic tube through computer.
• Processes specimens including centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, and labeling.
• Registers short form outreach specimens received from clients.
• Assists in ensuring adequate inventory of supplies; monitors inventory levels.
• Maintains accurate records of processes using manual and computer systems.
• Logs errors for specimens received with improper tubes or requisitions.
• Adheres to laboratory quality, health and safety policies and procedures.
