Job summary

Forward Air Corp. in Indianapolis seeks a Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, and move freight in a multimodal terminal or dock environment, mentoring newer Material Handlers as needed.

This role requires a valid forklift certification, 3+ years dock/warehouse experience, English communication, and the ability to lift up to 75 lbs with assistance; schedule Mon-Fri 2 PM–10 PM, $21/hr with a $2 shift differential after 6 PM.

Qualifications

• Valid forklift certification/licensure required.
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to recognize numbers, labels, barcodes, and freight markings and verify counts.
• Willingness to learn basic computer systems and handheld scanners.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs with assistance; 50 lbs without assistance.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• Work in a non-climate-controlled environment with temperature extremes.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using sit-down/stand-up forklifts and other MHE.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors and trailers.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping and delivery.
• Assist drivers with loading and unloading following safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight to ensure accuracy and documentation integrity.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues or unsafe conditions.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized dock environment.
• Train, mentor, and support the development of other Material Handlers.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
