Job summary

The University of Alaska is seeking a full-time Data Center Technician to monitor statewide IT infrastructure, hosted systems, and data center operations from the Butrovich Data Center in Fairbanks. You will resolve issues, support security, and assist with power tracking while occasionally providing after-hours service desk support.

Ideal candidates have IT training or experience, knowledge of electrical/mechanical systems, and familiarity with Unix/Windows environments.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Experience with production-oriented software applications (financial, payroll, tracking).
• Familiarity with Unix and Windows operating systems.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the status of statewide computer network, enterprise apps, hosted systems, and data center infrastructure.
• Resolve or escalate issues; support 24x7x365 data center operations.
• Maintain security, monitor video surveillance, and perform hardware installations.
• Assist in power distribution tracking and potentially after-hours Service Desk support.
