Job summary

Center for Victims in Pittsburgh seeks an Evening Hotline Advocate to answer the 24-hour crisis line and provide immediate crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals. The role includes offender release notifications, shelter intake assistance, and on-call shelter coverage.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED (Bachelor’s preferred), 1–2 years in human services, crisis intervention knowledge, and ability to obtain clearances. Proficiency in MS Office is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred with 1 to 2 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies and conflict resolution
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Completion of mandatory victim assistance training provided by the organization
  • Ability to secure Act 33/34 and FBI clearances
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn agency-specific software

Responsibilities

  • Answer the 24-hour crisis hotline, primarily during the 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. shift, providing immediate support
  • Assess caller needs and provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals
  • Provide information and advocacy related to victims’ rights and the criminal justice system
  • Provide individual advocacy and support to victims and witnesses navigating systems
  • Manage Offender Release Notification services with jail and PA SAVIN/VineWatch
  • Notify clients of offender releases, transfers, and pre-trial proceedings, with safety planning
  • Assess emergency shelter needs and assist with shelter intake and placement
  • Support shelter operations and cover shifts as needed
  • Participate in the shelter on-call rotation
  • Maintain accurate client records and reports per requirements
  • Communicate with supervisors to ensure follow-up between shifts
  • Assist with training new Shelter Advocates on hotline procedures
  • Participate in trainings, meetings, and agency activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
