Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking an RN Staff Nurse to provide professional care for a group of patients during a 0.9 FTE night shift. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, planning and implementing care, educating patients, documenting care, and coordinating with the health care team.

On-call: No; Weekends: Yes; Endoscopy/ACLS/PALS certifications preferred with time-based requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Michigan Registered Professional Nurse licensure required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider—required.
• Endoscopy RN: ACLS provider preferred; must obtain ACLS certification within 60 days of hire or placement in the unit.
• Level 4/Level 5 RN: ACLS provider preferred; must obtain ACLS certification within one year of hire or placement in the unit.
• Level 4/Level 5 RN: Competence in basic cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation required; training will be provided.
• Level 6: PALS provider preferred.
• ED: PALS provider preferred; must obtain PALS certification within six months; ACLS within three months; recertify every two years.
• IR/NEURO IR RN: ACLS must be obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

• ASSESSMENT—Assess the patient’s condition and needs across physical, psychologic, cognitive, social, rehabilitative, and discharge aspects.
• PLANNING—Develop a care plan using nursing diagnoses and patient outcome goals.
• IMPLEMENTATION—Carry out the nursing plan and physician orders.
• IMPLEMENTATION—Set priorities based on patient needs and available resources.
• IMPLEMENTATION—Perform nursing procedures and use equipment per standards.
• EVALUATION—Evaluate response to interventions and adjust plan as needed.
• PATIENT EDUCATION—Educate patient and family based on cognitive needs and goals.
• DOCUMENTATION—Record concise, accurate, timely information in the patient record.
• PATIENT/FAMILY RIGHTS—Respect patient rights and confidentiality.
• SAFETY/RISK MANAGEMENT—Follow safety standards.
• LEGAL ISSUES—Be aware of legal considerations in patient care and department operations.
• EMERGENCIES—Act efficiently in emergencies and document events.
• KNOWLEDGE BASE—Maintain current knowledge and standards of care.
• PROFESSIONALISM—Maintain professional conduct and scheduling flexibility.
• SELF EDUCATION—Pursue ongoing learning and seek guidance when needed.
