Job summary

University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee is recruiting a Central Plant Operator I to manage and operate campus heating and cooling equipment in Milwaukee, WI. This on-site, full-time role focuses on supervising boiler/chiller performance, monitoring controls, and ensuring safe, compliant operations.

Under supervision, you will perform emergency and routine maintenance, keep logs, and support smooth shift transitions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of six months of maintenance experience (education or coursework may substitute).
• Ability to lift weights up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Ability to work at heights up to 35 feet with fall protection or ladders.
• Willingness to wear required PPE per UWM policies, procedures, and practices.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Must be able to work overtime and all shifts including weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Perform emergency, routine, and preventative maintenance under direction of central plant leadership.
• Repair failed equipment and document parts used and actions taken.
• Complete preventative maintenance work orders and log data per procedures.
• Coordinate with preceding/succeeding shifts to ensure smooth plant operations and accurate handoffs.
