Job summary

University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee is seeking a Central Plant Operator II to monitor and operate high-pressure boilers and large chillers at the campus Central Heating and Cooling plant, including satellite facilities. You will decide on equipment dispatch and operating parameters to ensure continuous, safe production of utilities.

The role involves operating the plant on assigned shifts, performing preventative maintenance, and guiding staff in procedures.

Qualifications

One year or more of experience operating and maintaining high pressure boilers and related equipment.
Ability and willingness to wear the required PPE according to UWM policies and procedures.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. unassisted.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to work at heights up to 35 feet while using fall protection or ladders.
Ability to work overtime and all shifts including weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
Basic proficiency with electronic communication methods (e.g. email).
Experience in power plant environments.
Leadership experience in the workplace.
Ability to drive on state business per requirements.

Responsibilities

Monitor plant instrumentation and controls and respond to anomalies or emergencies.
Monitor satellite buildings and critical spaces via building automation computers.
Communicate respectfully with coworkers and customers to ensure smooth operations.
Coordinate status updates with other shifts and staff.
Log information on logs and data sheets per procedures.
Ensure maintenance reports are completed and reported to leadership.
Conduct hourly inspection tours.
Arrange coverage for unexpected shift vacancies.
Direct activities of staff on shift when assigned.
