Job summary

University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee seeks a Central Plant Superintendent to oversee the Kenwood Campus Central Plant and six satellite plants. You will supervise 24/7/365 steam and chilled water production, manage staff, budgets, and regulatory compliance, and liaise with DOA/DFD and campus partners to ensure continuous utility service.

Off-hour response may be necessary. The role requires power plant operations expertise, project leadership, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Five years of progressive experience in power plant operations.
• Experience leading teams and coordinating operational actions.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience developing and executing capital and operational projects.
• Knowledge of power plant equipment functions and system integration.
• Ability to make operational decisions and prioritize work.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in confined spaces.
• Willingness to work overtime and rotating shifts.
• Experience with safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Direct 24/7/365 plant operations to ensure safe, reliable production and distribution of steam and chilled water.
• Supervise staff, set performance expectations, and oversee payroll and training.
• Lead safety and continuous improvement initiatives and mentor staff.
• Make technical decisions and oversee maintenance and repairs for reliability.
• Develop and monitor standard operating procedures and document performance data.
• Oversee plant control systems, water treatment, fuel systems, and records.
• Coordinate emergency response and off-hour coverage as needed.
• Manage operating budgets, procurement, and inventory of tools and supplies.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and prepare monthly reports.
