Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools seeks an assistant coach to lead middle school athletic programs. The role begins September 2026 and involves supervising student athletes, planning sport-specific activities, and coordinating after-school practices for 7th–8th grade teams with emphasis on safety and sportsmanship.

Requires a high school diploma and at least two years as an assistant coach, plus First Aid/CPR. Pay is $17.13/hour with no benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of experience as an assistant coach.
• Must be at least 21 years of age (WIAA).

Responsibilities

• Supervises student athletes to promote learning through athletic participation.
• Plans and implements an effective program for the sport, including practice scheduling and safety.
• Organizes practice sessions for middle school teams after school and teaches fundamentals.
• Maintains equipment and records, coordinates with athletic staff, and follows district procedures.
• Communicates rules and schedules to students and parents.
