Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking an assistant coach to support the head coach in delivering a positive athletic program for student athletes. The role involves supervising practices, ensuring safety, and helping athletes develop skills and confidence on game days.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
Some coaching experience preferred.
First Aid, CPR and AED certifications required.
Lifeguard certification or equivalent may be required for swimming, diving and water polo coaching.

Responsibilities

Supervises student athletes to promote learning through athletic participation.
Assists head coach in preparing athletes physically and mentally for contests; enforces safety and discipline fairly.
Oversees practice sessions, teaches basic skills, promotes good sportsmanship and follows coaching standards.
Follows district procedures for handling injuries and safety checks of equipment.
Attends district and building athletic meetings and stays updated on rule changes.
