Tacoma Public Schools in Tacoma, WA, is seeking an assistant coach to support the athletic program during Session 4. The role starts in April 2027, with duties focused on supervising student athletes and assisting the head coach in daily activities, practice planning, and safety compliance.

Requires a high school diploma and some coaching experience, plus First Aid/CPR/AED and Lifeguard certifications. This position is not benefits eligible and pays $17.13 per hour.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and some coaching experience.
• First Aid Certificate, CPR card and AED training are required.
• Red Cross Safety Training or Lifeguard certification is also required for swimming, diving and water polo coaches.
• Knowledge of school, district and WAIA policies and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Supervises student athletes to promote learning through athletic participation.
• Assists head coach in preparing athletes physically and mentally; administers discipline as needed; emphasizes safety.
• Oversees practice sessions; teaches basic skills; promotes sportsmanship; follows Coaches’ Handbook rules.
• Follows district procedures for handling injuries; maintains equipment issuance and inventories.
• Attends district and building athletic meetings; updates knowledge through clinics; performs related duties.
