Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools seeks a Tutor to provide tutorial services and assist students in understanding subjects and improving academic skills. Reports to the Principal and emphasizes confidentiality and professional conduct.

Requirements include a two-year degree or 48 semester hours. Employees may tutor in groups or individually, following all school policies. Ten-month employment with hourly compensation from $15.00 (non-certified) to $35.00 (certified).

Job Description

TITLE: Tutor
QUALIFICATIONS: Two-year degree or 48 semester hours of college-level coursework
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: Provide tutorial services to assist students in achieving a better understanding of subject matter and to improve academic capabilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follow all rules, policies, and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to schools.
• Provide academic assistance to assigned tutees, either in a group or individually.
• Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
• Help students develop self-confidence and reduce fear of failure in academic work.
• Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
• Establish and maintain rapport with the assigned students.
• Serve as a role model for students.
• Maintain strict confidentiality for all matters.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the building principal.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month employment/At Will/FLSA Non-Exempt
Starting Salary and/or Grade: $15.00/Hour Non-Certified $35.00/Hour Certified
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
