Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools seeks a Tutor to support students in mastering subject matter and improving academic skills. The role involves providing academic assistance to tutees, individually or in groups, and helping students develop positive study habits and confidence.

This ten-month, non-exempt position reports to the principal and requires a two-year degree or 48 college hours. The starting pay ranges by certification, from $15 per hour for non-certified to $35 per hour for certified staff.

TITLE: Tutor

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: Provide tutorial services to assist students in achieving a better understanding of subject matter and to improve academic capabilities.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Follow all rules, policies, and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to schools.
• Provide academic assistance to assigned tutees, either in a group or individually.
• Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
• Help students develop self-confidence and reduce fear of failure in academic work.
• Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
• Establish and maintain rapport with the assigned students.
• Serve as a role model for students.
• Maintain strict confidentiality for all matters.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the building principal.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month employment/At Will/FLSA Non-Exempt

Starting Salary and/or Grade: $15.00/Hour Non-Certified $35.00/Hour Certified

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
