Job summary

Mercyhealth seeks an ED Technician Advanced to care for patients in the Emergency Department under nursing supervision. The role emphasizes mentoring new ED Techs, competency in monitoring, catheter care, and IV management, and collaboration with EMS and department staff.

Ideal candidates will have CNA or MA program credentials and at least 12 months in ED tech or EMT roles, with CPR/BLS certification within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Completion of a CNA program or graduate of an ABHES/CAAHEP-accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent licensed/credentialed program.
• 12 months experience as an ED Technician or in another emergency department, or as a prehospital EMT.
• Certification/licensure options include CNA, MA (AAMA/AMT/NCMA/AAH) or EMT-B/EMT-A with CPR/BLS within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Train/precept new ED Technicians and EMT/Paramedic students in collaboration with the unit educator.
• Attach patient to end-tidal CO2 monitoring when applicable.
• Manage and report collection devices (fecal management systems, indwelling catheters, nasogastric tubes).
• Perform manual blood pressure measurements and report abnormal values to RN.
• Discontinue invasive devices under RN direction (Foley catheters, nasogastric tubes, peripheral IVs).
• Serve as a mentor and resource to ED Technicians; support new hires for at least three shifts and supervise orientation.
• Educate new ED Technicians on procedures, safety, health issues, and department policies; coach for improvement.
• Identify process improvements and communicate concerns to management.
• Process patient charges and orders, assist in acquiring supplies for EMS, restock EMS room, and check equipment expirations.
• Participate in department/performance improvement activities; model Critical Moments of Service standards.
