Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch Health in Webster, TX seeks an ER Tech to provide intermediate technical assistance and supportive patient care in the Emergency Department. You will collect vital signs, assist with procedures, and help with patient activities and safety under nursing supervision.

Primary responsibilities include documenting data, supporting infection control, and maintaining a clean patient environment while protecting privacy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Completion of one of the following technical programs and one (1) year of related experience:
• Completion of EMT program OR
• Enrollment in a recognized School of Nursing with first semester clinical concepts and health assessments OR
• Active state EMS certification at date of hire OR
• Recognized military training as a US Army medic, US Navy Corpsmen, US Air Force Medic, or US Coast Guard Corpsman OR
• Completion of ER Tech CBO Tool within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports and documents data. Takes vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collects specimens.
• Performs and reports Point of Care Testing.
• Assists with patient activities and care as indicated by the patient’s plan of care.
• Provides for patients’ personal hygiene and mobility support, including baths, suctioning, wound care, elimination assistance, catheter care, and ostomy care.
• Assists with patient feeding and mobility, including ambulation and turning.
• Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information at all times.
• Performs infection control procedures and aseptic technique as needed.
• Communicates clearly with nurses and multidisciplinary team members.
• Sets up equipment, tables for deliveries, and assists with procedures.
• Supports quality improvement activities.
