The ER Registrar supports accurate documentation, insurance verification, and seamless communication across clinical and administrative teams to facilitate efficient department operations, especially during night shifts.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education or training in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred
• 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting including patient registration, medical office scheduling, or front desk/admissions required
• 0-2 years of experience in customer service preferred

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and families in a professional and compassionate manner, ensuring a positive first impression.
• Registers patients for emergency services, obtaining all required personal, insurance, and medical information.
• Verifies patient identification and insurance details, making necessary updates to patient records as needed.
• Obtains patient’s or family member’s signature on consent forms, explaining each consent prior to signing.
• Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility for accurate billing.
• Collects patient co-pays or deductibles and informs patients of financial obligations.
• Assists patients with understanding insurance requirements and answers insurance-related questions.
• Documents when the patient cannot sign consent and notes nursing sign-off if needed.
• Verifies insurance and code accuracy for prompt payment.
• Compiles necessary paperwork for quick retrieval and processing of visits.
• Armbands patients for ID throughout their stay.
• Notifies relevant departments or physicians of patient arrival and follow-up if waiting is extended.
• Maintains communication during emergency codes and alerts the facility accordingly.
• Performs other duties as assigned and maintains regular attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
