Job summary

Rush University Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician II (PCT) for the Emergency Department in Chicago. The role involves a variety of clinical tasks including phlebotomy, under the direction of the RN, with day-time 12-hour shifts and weekend coverage.

Responsibilities include patient assistance, data collection, specimen handling, and collaboration with nurses and physicians to support care plans. Minimum high school diploma and BLS are required; prior clinical training preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Formal clinical training (CMA, CNA, PCT, EMT, corpsman, paramedic, or nursing/medical student experience).
• Maintains current BLS certification.
• Successful completion of institutional screening examination.
• Ability to solve simple problems.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe patient environment under RN direction.
• Sets priority of duties based on patient needs.
• Assists with individualized plans of care under RN guidance.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living.
• Accurately documents patient data and care in records.
• Performs routine procedures, treatments and specimen collection.
• Demonstrates aseptic technique when necessary.
• Transports patients and items as required.
• Assists RN or physician with advanced procedures.
• Manages tubes and drains and supports patient care tasks.
• Performs blood glucose testing and specimen collection.
• Documents care in real time at the point of care.
• Maintains supplies and emergency readiness.
• Communicates pertinent information to team members across shifts.
