Job summary

University of Chicago Medicine seeks an Emergency Room Technician for the Adult Emergency Department. The role supports RNs, transports patients, performs POC testing and EKGs, and assists in maintaining room readiness in a busy, adult ED.

Requirements include high school diploma, CNA with phlebotomy or EKG experience, EMT-B or EMT-P, and BLS certification. This is a full-time, on-site position based in the Hyde Park area.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• CNA with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience, or EMT-B or EMT-P.
• Must have current Basic Life Support certification (AHA).
• Ability to follow instructions and assist patients without direct supervision.
• Ability to interact effectively with patients, staff and the public.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients within the hospital.
• Maintain supplies and linen at par levels in assigned areas.
• Perform and document POC testing and EKG, including QC and data transmission.
• Assist RNs with patient care as needed per policy.
• Sit with medically/psychologically compromised patients.
• Prepare ED rooms for next patients; keep environment clean.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
