Job summary

Care New England is seeking an Emergency Department Clinical Social Worker to provide behavioral health services within the ED, including triage, assessment, intervention, and discharge planning as part of the interdisciplinary care team.

Requires a Masters in Social Work and preferred licensure, with experience in behavioral health and hospital settings highly valued. Responsibilities include urgent assessments, brief counseling, and coordination of care and referrals for safe dispositions.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Social Work required; licensure preferred.
• Experience in behavioral health required.
• Experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct emergency clinical assessments and convey findings to the attending physician.
• Document all assessments and related procedures per departmental guidelines.
• Provide psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling for patients with behavioral health needs.
• Coordinate referrals and facilities; report safety concerns as needed; utilize supervision for complex cases.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and provide feedback on patient care.
• Accurately assess appropriate level of care and determine disposition plan.
• Understand hospital policies including risk, infection control, and safety.
• Maintain licensure when applicable and pursue ongoing professional development.
• Participate in supervision with Clinical Supervisor as scheduled; perform other duties as assigned.
