The City of Farmers Branch seeks an experienced equipment operator to manage medium equipment for street maintenance and public projects. This role requires technical knowledge, decision-making skills, and the ability to work outdoors in various conditions. Candidates must have a Class B CDL and at least three years of relevant experience.
The purpose of this position is to operate medium equipment, with occasional use of light or heavy equipment, used to excavate, load, transfer, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials in street maintenance, city infrastructure, and public property projects. The role may also involve assisting with special events.
Responsibilities include operating various equipment, performing minor maintenance and service checks, transporting tools and equipment, and ensuring safety procedures are followed. The position requires knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or its equivalent.
Candidates must have at least three years of experience operating light to medium equipment. Depending on assignments, assistance in Traffic Operations may be required.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check, DOT-regulated drug/alcohol testing, motor vehicle review, and FMCSA Clearinghouse background check.
The role may involve supervising helpers, assistants, seasonal, or temporary employees, and providing advice on specific problems or policies, requiring persuasive communication skills.
The position receives general instructions with some discretion in decision-making and typically involves technical knowledge, analytical judgment, and decision-making abilities.
Necessary skills include intermediate reading and comprehension of technical materials, basic writing skills, and the ability to learn city geography.
Heavy physical labor, often outdoors in extreme weather, involving lifting objects over 50 lbs, physical exertion, and extensive bending, stooping, and climbing.
