Job Description: Equipment Operator - County Roads and City Projects

Operate equipment involved in the maintenance and construction of County roads and city projects.

Responsibilities:
  1. Operate and/or drive trucks or light equipment.
  2. Perform road maintenance or construction-related duties while operating equipment.
  3. Transport equipment and supplies as needed.
  4. Control traffic flow at the work site.
  5. Perform routine maintenance on equipment or trucks and report needed repairs.
  6. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Note: You must fill out the work history and education sections of the application to demonstrate the required experience and education; failure to do so will disqualify you.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED plus one (1) full-time year of related work experience, or
  • Five (5) full-time years of related work experience.

Licensing Requirements:

  • A current and valid Class C driver license is required upon hire.
  • Class A CDL with tanker endorsement required within eight (8) months of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • The selected candidate(s) must take and pass a pre-placement physical examination and DOT drug test.
  • If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment during new hire processing.

Background Checks: Tarrant County will conduct background checks, including criminal history, credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records, and educational verification. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic disqualifier; each case is considered individually.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

While performing duties, incumbents are regularly required to stoop, bend, push, and pull. May need to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme heat, and cold is possible.
