Job Description for Equipment Operator - County Roads and City Projects

Operate equipment involved in the maintenance and construction of County roads and city projects.

Responsibilities:
  1. Operate and/or drive trucks or light equipment.
  2. Perform road maintenance or construction duties while operating equipment.
  3. Transport equipment and supplies as needed.
  4. Control traffic flow at work sites.
  5. Perform routine maintenance on equipment or trucks and report needed repairs.
  6. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Note: You must fill out the work history and education sections of the application to demonstrate the required experience or education; otherwise, you will be disqualified.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED + one (1) full-time year of related work experience, or
  • Five (5) full-time years of related work experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • A current and valid Class C driver license is required upon hire.
  • Class A CDL with tanker endorsement is required within eight (8) months of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must take and pass a pre-placement physical examination and DOT drug test.
  • If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment during new hire processing.

Background checks will be conducted, including criminal background, and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records, and educational verification. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic disqualifier; each case is considered individually.

Physical demands include stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting objects up to 100 pounds, and exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme heat, and cold.
