Job Overview

The Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment of various types to remove branches and tree material from electrical lines. Must have a valid driver's license; CDL preferred. Experience with Barko (mower), Linebacker (mower), and Jarraff (Sky trim) is required.

Essential Functions
  • Follow and enforce safe practices and rules
  • Assist in preparing equipment and materials as directed by the Foreperson
  • Operate equipment as directed
  • Maintain and repair equipment and tools
  • Assist team members and assume leadership when needed
  • Clean up debris
  • Set up barriers, warning signs, flags, markers to ensure safety
  • Stay informed on equipment, procedures, and policies
  • Report mileage to Foreperson
  • Perform storm work duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities

Equipment Operators do not have direct reports.

Experience Requirements

Prior experience in heavy equipment operation within utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries is preferred.

Education Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and safe operation
  • Physical strength and balance for climbing and operating equipment
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Good hearing and communication skills
  • First-aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to wear PPE
  • Good vision and attentiveness
  • Valid Driver’s License; CDL and DOT Medical Card if operating trucks over 26,000 lbs.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions
  • Balance over uneven terrain
  • Endurance for a full workday
  • Willingness to travel for storm restoration work
