I. Purpose of Job

Under general supervision, operates a variety of heavy vehicles and equipment. Position requires a high degree of operator skill. May perform manual work duties as assigned. Works in Streets, Water Management, Sanitation and Environmental Services, or another City department.

II. Essential Job Duties

• Operates Vehicles, Equipment, and Machinery
• Operates a variety of heavy equipment (CDL required) at least 50% of the time, including large dump trucks, Gradall, aerial bucket trucks, storm sewer vacuum trucks, boom tractors, leaf trucks, tractors with brush hogs, street sweepers, brine equipment, mini excavators, and skid steers.
• Performs routine equipment maintenance and inspects machinery.
• Performs manual labor tasks such as digging, shoveling, applying asphalt, loading/unloading materials, and debris removal.
• Uses various power and hand tools.
• Maintains records and reports as needed.

III. Other Job Duties

• May handle disinfectants/insecticides, set safety cones, and flag traffic.
• May instruct others and provide backup coverage.
• Maintains a clean and safe work area.
• This position is On-Call eligible with rotation required.

VI. Physical Demands and Work Environment

Requires stationary work, movement across worksites, heavy equipment operation, and physical effort including lifting up to 100 pounds. Exposure to outdoor weather, fumes, chemicals, loud environments, and mechanical parts.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or GED plus three years of construction equipment operation experience or equivalent. CDL-A or B license required. Additional certifications may include erosion control, flagging, forklift, and work zone.
