Job description

Join to apply for the Equipment Operator II-Parks role at City of York, PA.

Position Summary:

In the Recreation and Parks Division, this role involves skilled work in operating specialized park maintenance and ice rink equipment. Employees are responsible for the safe and efficient operation and preventative maintenance of heavy motor equipment. They may also schedule work for routine park maintenance activities. While they exercise independent judgment in equipment operation and task performance, assignments are received from a supervisor and inspected for desired results.

Essential Functions:

  1. Operate loader for various maintenance projects.
  2. Operate snow removal equipment, including trucks or jeeps mounted with snow plows.
  3. Drive dump trucks hauling materials like topsoil for park maintenance and resurfacing.
  4. Operate pole cat for tree trimming and removal, among other projects.
  5. Operate tractors and turf-moving equipment for grass cutting and general maintenance.
  6. Perform routine maintenance on motorized equipment.
  7. Oversee and assist other employees with loading/unloading trucks, routine park maintenance, and manual labor tasks.
  8. Perform related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of heavy motorized equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of construction and park maintenance practices, materials, and safety rules.
  • Some knowledge of City geography.
  • Skill in operating heavy automotive equipment.
  • Ability to make mechanical repairs, understand instructions, and perform manual tasks.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of experience with heavy automotive and related equipment or equivalent.
  • Valid Class B CDL with air brake and tank endorsements.
  • Background, drug, and child abuse clearances.
