EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II(REFUSE COLLECTION)
An Overview
An Equipment Operator II operates one or more types of heavy automotive equipment. This role requires considerable skill in manipulating heavy motor equipment, with a focus on safety to prevent accidents. Assignments are outlined by supervisors, following standard procedures, with periodic inspections for safety and efficiency. This position differs from Equipment Operator I by requiring a higher skill level and handling more expensive equipment. The incumbent may lead Laborers and Refuse Collectors.

Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent experience and training, with at least two years of relevant equipment operation experience in Solid Waste. They must demonstrate supervisory skills, hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with all endorsements, and have a thorough knowledge of traffic safety rules. Ability to read technical materials, evaluate work orders, follow instructions, perform minor repairs, and work in all weather conditions is required.
Note
Resource Recovery operates 7 days a week. Scheduled hours may include weekends. Typical hours are 6:30 am – 3:00 pm from October to April, and 5:30 am – 2:00 pm from May to September.
