Job summary

Florida Department of Transportation in Bartow, FL is seeking an Equipment Operator to perform roadway maintenance across Polk County, including pothole repair, shoulder work, tree trimming, and more. The role supports safety and functionality of Florida’s transportation system through hands-on fieldwork.

The Successful Candidate will hold a valid Class E license, pursue CDL within timelines, and demonstrate ability to operate heavy equipment, follow safety rules, and communicate effectively.

Qualifications

• Requires one year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles.
• A Class E driver's license is required at time of hire.
• CDL Class B Permit required within 60 days and CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Performs minor maintenance and servicing on equipment and assists in repairs; checks fluids and brakes and air pressure.
• Operates a variety of equipment including dump trucks, loaders, graders, and asphalt repair trucks.
• Performs Temporary Traffic Control and assists with crew activity reports as needed.
• Maintains safety and quality of work on state roads across Polk County.
