Job summary

The State of Florida Department of Transportation seeks a Highway Maintenance Technician I for Bartow Operations Center. You will perform roadway maintenance on state roads, including pothole repairs, shoulder work, tree trimming, and emergency response, to keep Florida’s transportation system safe and functional.

The role requires a valid Class E driver's license, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and ability to work outdoors in varying weather. The position is open to U.S.

Qualifications

• Read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms.
• Maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures; communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Lift, carry and handle up to 50 pounds.
• Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend frequently.
• Work outdoors in varying weather, terrains and heights with traffic.
• Stand for extended periods of time.
• Perform minor maintenance on vehicles and operate equipment.

Responsibilities

• Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways.
• Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision.
• Operates a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites.
• Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment.
• Cleans and washes equipment.
• Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in signs erection.
• Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic)
