Job summary

STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION in Bartow is seeking an Equipment Operator to perform roadway maintenance and operate a range of heavy equipment on state roads. The role supports safety and function of Florida’s transportation system through hands-on fieldwork.

The successful candidate will have at least one year of equipment-operating experience and must hold a Class E driver's license, with an instructional CDL permit due within 60 days and a Class B CDL with air brakes within 10

Qualifications

• Requires one year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles.
• A Class E driver's license is required at time of hire.
• CDL Class B license Instructional Permit required within 60 days and CDL Class B with air brakes within 10 months.

Responsibilities

• Performs minor maintenance and servicing on equipment and assists in repairs; checks fluids, brakes, tires.
• Operates and maintains a variety of heavy equipment on state roads and highways.
• Tree trimming, carpentry, masonry, painting, and highway sign work as needed.
• Performs Temporary Traffic Control and assists with crew activity reports.
