Job summary

Florida Department of Transportation is seeking an Equipment Operator in Brooksville to maintain state roadway systems and operate a range of heavy and light equipment. The role requires a Class B CDL with air brakes and the ability to perform maintenance on machinery and perform manual labor outdoors in varying conditions.

Qualifications

• One year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles.
• Valid Class B CDL with air brakes required at time of hire.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Respond to emergencies and be on-call as required; able to work outdoors in various conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment such as front end loader, skid steer, grader and other listed gear.
• Performs minor maintenance and servicing on equipment and assists in repairs.
• Checks and adds fluids, inspects brakes, and maintains proper tire pressures; cleans and washes equipment.
• Uses hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways; performs manual labor with minimal supervision.
• Performs tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting and assists in highway sign assembly/erection.
• Performs Temporary Traffic Control and assists with crew activity reports as needed.
