Job summary

The Florida Department of Transportation, District 1/Bartow Operations Center, seeks a Highway Maintenance Technician I to perform roadway maintenance and repairs on state roads in Polk County, including pothole filling, shoulder work, tree trimming, and emergency response.

This role supports safety and functionality of Florida’s transportation system with hands-on fieldwork. The position offers a stable career within OneFDOT, with opportunities for training and advancement.

Qualifications

• Class E driver's license required.
• Background check required; may supervise inmates and complete training certifications.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair highways and bridges on state roads in Polk County.
• Perform pothole repairs, shoulder work, tree trimming, and sidewalk upkeep.
• Respond to emergencies and operate a vehicle between work sites.
• Perform temporary traffic control and routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
