Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. is seeking an Equipment Maintenance Technician I in West Lafayette, IN to perform preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment and learn SEL processes.

The role requires basic electronics knowledge and the ability to work under supervision while contributing to continuous improvement. The position offers growth within the Process Engineering and Manufacturing Operations teams, with training travel during the first months and a focus on reliability

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in electronic technology or equivalent experience.
  • Basic understanding of electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic technology.
  • Experience maintaining and performing preventive maintenance on production equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of analog and digital electronics.
  • Basic knowledge of modern test equipment used to diagnose equipment failures.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Ability to accept and understand direction, learn new skills and assume new responsibilities with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks under direct guidance.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform preventive maintenance of basic complexity on manufacturing equipment.
  • Work under the guidance of Supervisor and Tech IIs/IIIs to complete tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues found during preventive maintenance and reactive calls.
  • Enter and maintain entries in the equipment maintenance database.
  • Learn and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Process Engineering team in Manufacturing Operations as an Equipment Maintenance Technician I in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Must be willing and able to travel during the first 4-6 months of employment for training, totaling approximately 8-12 weeks in two-week increments.

As an Equipment Maintenance Technician I you’ll be responsible for independently performing preventative maintenance of basic complexity on manufacturing equipment, as well as working under the guidance of Supervisor and Tech IIs and IIIs to complete tasks as needed.

A typical day as an Equipment Maintenance Technician I might include:
  • Performing basic troubleshooting and repair of issues found during preventive maintenance and reactive calls.
  • Entering and maintaining accurate entries in the equipment maintenance database.
  • Learning and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

It is a plus if you have:
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment, including analog, digital, and microprocessor circuits as well as vision and robotics systems.
  • Basic knowledge of programming automated production equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of printed circuit board assembly, mechanical assembly, and cable assembly processes.

Pay Range: $35.38 – $51.10 per hour (plus $5.00/hr 2nd shift differential)

Equipment Maintenance Technician Pay Scale

Equipment Maintenance Technician I: $35.38 – $51.10 per hour

Equipment Maintenance Technician II: $38.33 – $55.44 per hour

Equipment Maintenance Technician III: $43.00 – $62.35 per hour
