Job description

EOPS Counselor: Adjunct POOL (college/continuing education)

The San Diego Community College District is accepting applications for adjunct (part‑time/substitute) positions for its three college campuses (City, Mesa, Miramar) and various Continuing Education centers. Qualified applicants will be placed in a continuous pool for potential assignments in the fall, spring, and/or summer semesters. Applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego.

Assignments

Assignments may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or off‑campus classes.

Major Responsibilities
  • Provide educational advising and administer appropriate assessment instruments for prospective students; refer students to support services as needed.
  • Inform students about college procedures, catalog use, regulations, fees, resources, special programs, and placement test scores.
  • Assist entering students in completing a first‑semester individual educational plan and help continuing students identify academic and educational goals.
  • Conduct individual career counseling and provide career information as needed.
  • Assist students in finding appropriate college and community resources to resolve problems, including crises that interfere with their success.
  • Provide counseling services for probationary and disqualified students; identify student learning problems in cooperation with the instructional program.
  • Provide counseling and advisement services to special program students, including those on financial aid, international students, veterans, students with disabilities, athletes, and students in various retention programs.
  • Assist with ongoing planning and implementation of the college Matriculation Plan.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work or Career Development, or the equivalent.
  • For counselors hired after October 24, 1987: (a) a minimum of nine semester units of college coursework related to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; or (b) six semester units or the equivalent of a college‑level counseling practicum or field‑work course in a community college EOPS program or a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.
  • For counselors hired after October 24, 1987: two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages, or the equivalent.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.

Conditions of Employment
  • Submit official college transcripts.
  • Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam, renewed every four years.
  • Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the district’s expense; clearance must be received prior to the first day of employment.
