Job description

Counselor, Access Programs, Part-time Adjunct Pool (IWV)

Salary: $60.00 hourly

Job Type: Temporary – Adjuncts

Location: CC – Main Campus, Ridgecrest, CA

Department: Counseling (COUN)

Adjunct counselors for Access programs provide dedicated support to students participating in DSPS, EOPS, CARE, NextUp, and/or CalWORKS. Services are individualized based on students’ needs. In addition to program‑specific support, the adjunct counselor will provide non‑instructional activities in academic advising, career guidance, and education and transfer planning.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, or equivalent.
  • EOPS requirements (for applicants hired after Oct 24, 1987):
    • Completed a minimum of nine semester units of college coursework predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or individuals handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages.
    • OR completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college‑level counseling practicum or field‑work course in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or individuals handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages.
    • In addition, at least two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or individuals handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages.
  • DSPS requirements:
    • Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling; OR counseling, guidance counseling, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family, and child counseling.
    • 15 or more semester units in upper‑division or graduate level coursework specifically related to people with disabilities; OR completion of six semester units, or an equivalent graduate‑level counseling practicum or field‑work course in a post‑secondary DSPS program or a program dealing predominantly or exclusively with people with disabilities; OR two years of full‑time experience, or equivalent, counseling students with disabilities or in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations where the responsibilities were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities.
    • NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the above‑listed disciplines and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist is an alternative.
  • Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions. Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service.

  • Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency.
  • Ability to assess student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
