Position Overview

Personal Growth Counselor – Adjunct, Part‑time (College and Career Access Program, CCAP)

Location: District Wide – San Diego Community College District (includes City, Mesa, Miramar campuses and continuing education centers)

Major Responsibilities
  • Teach college‑level lecture and lab courses in personal, career, wellness, and student development topics using traditional, hybrid, and fully online modalities.
  • Prepare engaging course materials and employ effective, culturally relevant teaching methodologies.
  • Assist diverse student populations in their growth and success through intentional instruction and support.
  • Perform related clerical and administrative duties, including timely compliance with district, college, and division training requirements.
  • Provide career information to students and facilitate access to appropriate college and community resources.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related fields from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications

At least one year of experience teaching college courses for credit in personal growth, first‑year college success, career and student development, health and wellness, or related learning strategies/study skills.

Equivalency

Applicants holding foreign degrees must have coursework evaluated by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, INC (ACEI) professional association. The evaluation must be submitted with the application.

Licenses / Certificates / Credentials
  • California Community College Counselor Credential (valid for life) – preferred.
  • Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) license – alternative qualification.

Working Conditions

Variable, depending on assignment (day, evening, weekend, and/or off‑campus classes).

Conditions of Employment
  • Submit official college transcripts before employment.
  • Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam, renewed every four years.
  • Undergo a live‑scan fingerprint clearance prior to the first day of employment.
  • Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
