Position Summary
The Environmental Services Technician I is responsible for executing daily duties to establish and maintain a safe, clean, healing environment. Responsible for ensuring daily room cleaning and timely room turnaround times related to patient throughput within the principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The Environmental Services Technician, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, contributes to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers using appropriate engagement techniques.
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms and ancillary areas, including bathrooms, corridors, medication storage rooms, and other areas as directed, using designated chemicals and procedures.
- Access and use department-related technology systems, such as Bed Management systems.
- Replenish supplies, remove biomedical waste, trash, soiled linen, and change curtains as needed.
- Complete daily cleaning of patient rooms and bathrooms to accommodate discharges and admissions, following approved procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of healthcare cleaning principles, chemical safety, equipment handling, and labor-saving products.
- Follow safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines, promoting a culture of safety.
- Operate UV disinfection machines as needed.
- Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, focusing on customer experience and cleanliness metrics.
- Follow infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning, disinfection, hand hygiene, and PPE protocols.
- Maintain patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA.
- Report unsafe situations and submit repair requests.
- Communicate effectively in English, reading and writing.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance per organizational policies.
- Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
- Use computers and mobile devices effectively for job activities, resolving issues proactively.
- Understand facility safety requirements.
- Operate and maintain EVS tools and equipment properly.
- Set up and dismantle beds for cleaning per procedures.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by EVS leadership.
- Communicate openly and respectfully, fostering a collaborative environment.

Experience: No experience or less than 3 years in healthcare support, environmental services, hospitality, or related fields.
